look#42

BACK WITH A VENGENCE
I threw this cutie outfit together for a Lis and Josh date night last weekend. Rockin' a messy bun, my golden emblem tiger shirt, my black side-zipper jeggings and my black faux-leather roman sandles!
You may also notice that I don't have earlobe jewelry in? Well, if you know about stretched lobes, you probably already called my folly. I am wearing clear, silicone ear skins. I love them. I also gauged my ears up! I am now at 5/8's of an inch!

Josh says that I have to stay at that size. v-v
I don't care though, now I can stock up on kawaii ear jewelry!
I am also taking a *fakie septum ring for a test run. Once I get a little money set aside for the actual piercing I will go and get the real deal, can't wait! I am ready to move on and take out my cute little spider bites.

Here is yet another of my new looks for work!

I already had my owl tank top that you see here, but the cardigan and the skirt are a new addition! I also have a new pair of way fresh wedges.
Here is another pair of handmade-gauge-hiders. They work perfectly for shielding my not so work appropriate lifestyle choices.
... And my new wedges.

Keep checking back daily for more looks and other posts!

hair picks: scarves

it gets so freaking hot here during the summer

One of the best ways for me to cope during the hot summer months are hair scarves! Not only do they look really cute, but hair scarves keep your hair protected from the sun, they help to absorb sweat (yes, gross, I know) and they also can help when the weather is so humid that your head turns into a giant poof-ball.

I decided to compile some of my favorite images of ladies wearing head scarves for your viewing pleasure and for you to get some great ideas to style your own head scarf!
I love how this maiden has her scarf braided into her hair! It looks so chic and is super easy to do.
I feel like the back of my hair would go really flat if I tried this, but it looks really cute and boho regardless!
Is it just me, or does this really look like a Jack Sparrow-esque head wrap?
Women of color always have the most beautiful, voluminous curls as it seems to me. I wish that I could pull off a wrap like this, but my flat, white girl hair just does not have that oomph.
I wanted to make this image larger but it keeps coming out way to grainy. But here, you can see Miss Audrey Hepburn rocking a very large headwrap. I think that it may be a little too big for my comfort, but thanks anyway Audrey.

look at my new shirt
Joshua got me this awesome shirt a few weeks ago and I think it rocks. It's a little different from what I normally wear, but I am happy with the look! I don't really like how the shorts look though, come to think of it...
Why do my lips look so white here... I look like I have been rubbing coke on my teeth.

more navajo-inspira for you all

I wanted to do a look for this week that was soft and feminine, but also with a slight Native vibe.
I love to drag out my legitimate raccoon tail for these types of looks...
Oh yeah, I straightened my hair. Every time I do straighten my hair, I am always disappointed with the results.
I am not sure what type of crystal that necklace is made out of, but it is really pretty and iridescent. The beaded bracelets were made by me. I think that the banded bracelet  is an orange obsidian stone, but I may be wrong.
The plugs are "9/16's and they are made from real moonstone.

yet another blog ran by a lovely woman

It's been a minute since I've found any blogs that I can feature. It's not like they run few and far in between, quite the opposite. There are so many blogs out there that it is just as hard to pick a single one out. But today, I am featuring a blog that discusses everything from what to get your Mom for Mother's day, to health and beauty.

Take a peek.

look#34

this week's look is dark, but with navajo-inspira

So I have been using fashionfinder.asos to combine different pieces of my wardrobe together to make Navajo inspired looks. Here is this week's:
I love my striped crop top and my ripped black shorts... Who would have through that I could use them in a look like this.
Me. I did.
As you can see here, I used a combination of different war patterned jewelry to accent this look. I am also rocking my black moccasins yet again. I also styled my hair into a double-ponytail to give it some more length and volume. I failed a little bit and you can see my bathroom doorknob through my hair. Whoops. The necklace and the two smaller bracelets were handmade by myself.
I wanted to do my eye makeup in a way that would also bring out the Native American in myself... Even if I probably have zero blood line. I used a paint brush that I trimmed down to be extra thin so that I could get a very smooth line for my lower eyeliner. I also accented my eyes with some red lipstick. Yep. Lipstick.
Here you can get a good look at my handmade earrings. I hope that this week's theme doesn't offend anyone. If it does, please message me. I just really admire Native American heritage and I wanted to emulate their fantastic creativity, although my creativity surely pails in comparison to the real deal.

remember last week when i was playing with the idea of native american inspiration?

The inspiration continues this week as well. And probably for a few more weeks. Since it is summer here in the sunshine state, wearing black constantly can get very uncomfortable. So I figured that for a while at least that I would play around with Native American inspired fashion looks... While still of course keeping my edginess.
Alright, so this isn't actually a "look" persay. But I did go all through my wardrobe and compiled all of my favorite Navajo-esque pieces just for your viewing pleasure. Here I have purses, pouches, bracelets, necklaces, belts, plugs, earrings, feathers and headbands as well. Throughout the next few weeks you will be seeing many outfits combined with these little pieces that all in all may help to inspire you as well to go native.

tbd: hair picks

let this be a testament.

Let this post be a testament to all girls out there who know for a fact that they just simply cannot style their own hair. I for one know that I am among you ladies. On the other hand, there is good news. The Beauty Department is here to save us all from boring, crappy hair. Even I can do these, so I know that anyone else can.

I am so glad to have finally found a loophole for having bangs without having to cut your hair... Aside from using extensions.

Although I usually like to keep my bangs pulled away from my face, I really love this look. There are so many different ways to stylize a braid like this.

I have accumulated so many hair bows now, I need to stop. Luckily, this style called for a bow, so here it is. Instead of placing the bow more towards the nape of my neck, I placed it right on the back of my head. With a little teasing, plus some strategically placed strands, I can pull of this look while keeping volume on the back of my head. And yes, I know that my bangs are really long and not at all Audrey Hepburn.

With this style I made a few alterations here and there. Like in hairstyle#2 (a.k.a "top sider"), I always do my best to keep the hair on the back of my head from going flat. So in this style I put the twists on top of my head, rather than on the back. That way, the short curls left after the twists do well to make some volume towards the back.

'been trying to add a little native american chic to my normally very dark looks

I went shopping with my Mom at our local Goodwill so that I could find a few interviewing outfits to get ready for... Interviews. This is one of the tops that I got. As you can see it is very flowy and great for the stifling summer heat. It also has a few designs on it that reminded me so much of Native American type designs. Thus, becoming the perfect occasion to break out my black moccasins.
I don't do selfies normally, but this one is in the name of fashion.
And here are the moccasins. I don't wear them a lot because I am paranoid that they make my feet look really long... They do, I am telling you. But Josh likes them and he always reassures me that they look cute.
I, of course, never believe him.
I experimented with my hair for this post and I tried a side braid with a deep part. Holla to my girl KStew.

weee-ooo i have found yet another awesome shop.

Literally, I wish that I had mass amounts of cash so that I could help out the young lady whom owns this online shop. She has so many different items all from clothing, jewelry and art for purchase. Here is a link to her page. I will of course also add a link in my following/sites page.

look#31

you know, I never made a look with this tank yet.

I got this really cute tank top from Urban a while back, but I never got around to making a look with it. I guess since it's summer and it's stifling now, it is totally called for. I got the shorts as a hand me down from my cousin.
And no, I did not cut my bangs. This is a simple trick that I found online. I will be doing a blog post about hairstyles that I found online next week sometime and you all will get to see a few styles that I tested out, including this one.

watercolor hair masque attempt#2

i am taking another whack at this from a different approach.

I know that I said that I was giving up after the last time. The last time that I tried to apply watercolors to my hair wasn't fruitful at all. Therefore, with my sudden nautical inspiration I have a need to try this again.
things you will need
-old shirt
-hair oil
-comb
-gloves
-watercolors
-time
-paintbrush
-curling iron

I began by mixing my colors together, I chose a nice blue-green so that the orange coloring in my hair oil would accent it it rather than making it an odd shade like if I would have used a purple. Since I really like the ombre fade effect, I pony tailed my hair on top of my head, like in past attempts. I wet my ends so that my hair could really absorb the oil and the color. After wetting my ends, I put on my rubber gloves and thoroughly applied the color. Since this time I decided not to rinse out the color, I gently combed through my ends after letting my hair down. Next, I pulled my hair back and waited for it to dry.
You can see here that the watercolors are pretty drying and that is why I decided to go with a hair oil, rather than a conditioner like last time. Next time I try this (because I surely will) I think I will thin out the watercolors with some H2O before adding the oil. That way it wont dry quite so thick. However, the color is very bold and turned up well.
Here is the finished (no filter) result!

Watering down the paints is definitely a must for the next time that I do this again... Although, I would call this attempt a definite success! If you want to try this yourself make sure that you use watercolor paints. Any other kind of paint (i.e. acrylic/oil) can and will seriously destroy your hair. Just don't do it. Make sure that you have plenty of moisturizer for your hair as the watercolors can be very drying once they are applied. All in all I am pretty satisfied with this temporary way to color my hair without tinting! Well... It may or may not tint, but I will find out soon.
