god/goddess ask

aphrodite: what do you think of yourself?

I think that I am really young and that I also have a lot of growing up to do. But since the goddess for this particular question is Aphrodite, I kind of feel like this is aimed towards what I think of my physical self... Well, I am sure you guys know (if you have been reading my blog) that I am think that I am a skinny-acne baby. I will be so glad when I fill out and this crap goes away. I am not a model by any means, but I am blessed with what I have!

god/goddess ask

(this picture is not mine)

tree: what have you done with your life?
what are you going to do with it?

I only have a little bit of life on my record, honestly. So I don't think that I have done that much. I got my GED so that I could work. I guess that counts for something. I am in a good relationship with my lover, which is really awesome. I also am working a new job that I love and that has really good opportunities to go along with it, assuming that it all works out. I want to have a stable, happy life, making art and making happiness with Joshua. That is all.

god/goddess ask

odin: what is your family like?

My family... I have a lot of family, extended and blood. I have a great love for all of my family. Although there have been many (many *sigh) disagreements between some of us, we always manage to put the pieces back together. I haven't talked to my sister for a really long time now, though. We haven't been getting along... Then again, this isn't the first time that I have gone a long time without speaking to her though. My Mom has a chronic illness that effects her nervous system, so that's something for Joshua and I to think about in the long run. My Dad is just a simple, cool guy that suffers from lifelong hardship pretty much... Josh is my life and family as well, of course. That being said, I get a mother in law and a little sister in law that I love sooo much. I also get a Doug, which is Joshua's ex-step father.

god/goddess ask

bragi: what kind of music do you like?

I love music. I love all types of music. I was raised predominantly on classic rock and roll. However, I do like modern pop and some rap. I really like indie rock music which covers a huge range of different talents. I also like psychedelic music, vintage country, vintage western and vintage gospel music.

god/goddess ask

danu: how is your relationship with your mother?

My mom is not only my best friend, but she has really made me who I am throughout the years. Of course, just like with my Dad, we have had our big disagreements... However, as far as I am concerned, family comes first no matter how troubling, or frustrating a fight with family can be...

online store

i had mentioned that i was considering this a while back

Like I mentioned a few posts back, my Mama finally came home from Iowa. And along with Mama, came all of Mama's jewelry making tools. All of which she bestowed upon myself. Therefore, for the past few weeks or so, I have began to prepare merch to sell online!

Yes, I will be selling handmade jewelry with different themes such as mori girl, crystals and pastel goth pieces on an online shop. If I do well with my pieces online I may also do a few free giveaways for those of you that show the best interest. I haven't decided yet how I am going to incorporate a giveaway into my posts yet, but I will keep updating on my blog as I go.

Here are a few sneak peaks!

look#34

this week's look is dark, but with navajo-inspira

So I have been using fashionfinder.asos to combine different pieces of my wardrobe together to make Navajo inspired looks. Here is this week's:
I love my striped crop top and my ripped black shorts... Who would have through that I could use them in a look like this.
Me. I did.
As you can see here, I used a combination of different war patterned jewelry to accent this look. I am also rocking my black moccasins yet again. I also styled my hair into a double-ponytail to give it some more length and volume. I failed a little bit and you can see my bathroom doorknob through my hair. Whoops. The necklace and the two smaller bracelets were handmade by myself.
I wanted to do my eye makeup in a way that would also bring out the Native American in myself... Even if I probably have zero blood line. I used a paint brush that I trimmed down to be extra thin so that I could get a very smooth line for my lower eyeliner. I also accented my eyes with some red lipstick. Yep. Lipstick.
Here you can get a good look at my handmade earrings. I hope that this week's theme doesn't offend anyone. If it does, please message me. I just really admire Native American heritage and I wanted to emulate their fantastic creativity, although my creativity surely pails in comparison to the real deal.

earrings for stretched ears

with my mom's homecoming there are many perks...

You know Moms... My Mom loves to cook for Joshua and I, plus she is very neat and tidy. She is basically the best roommate ever. But one of the really awesome things about my Mom is that she loves to make jewelry. Therefore, she has loads of jewelry making accessories. Seeing that she has given me permission to play with all of her jewelry making items, I have been playing around with the idea of creating earrings to hang on my surgical steel tunnels for my stretched lobes.

When you take the dive into body modification, specifically the stretching of the earlobes, you soon come to the realization that you can no longer wear dangly earrings. And even if you do happen to find a jewelry maker that specializes in it, you only get what they make, not what you really and truly want. So, I made a few pairs of my own dangly earrings to wear with my tunnels!
I am starting with five different pairs that I just made, each one of them has a very specific feel for different types of outfits that I may match them with.
I made this pair to have a more natural feel. I used natural stones and crystals for those days when I feel dark and magical.
I made this pair out of boho inspiration. I wanted to have a pair that have both gold and silver in the piece, that way I can wear them with multiple colored jewelry.
This pair is inspired by indie and Aztec! You all know how much I like to wear black, so these will fit in perfectly with my wardrobe!
I am in love with all things 1900's vintage and Downton Abbey. Therefore, I made a pair of earrings that looked so lavish and rich that if they were normal earrings, one could possibly mistake me for a duchess.
Here is another pair that I made out of boho inspired style. This pair makes me feel like I am in Indonesia on the back of an elephant.

Watercolor Haircolor

Remember when I experimented with hair chalk?

I found something that may be even better when it comes to temporary hair dying. I was browsing around when I came across a blog post mentioning temporarily coloring your hair using a watercolor hydrating color mask. Basically, all you do with these masks is place them in your hair for an amount of time then wash them out. Supposedly, the color will stay in your hair for a short time, about a week or so, and then come out without permanently staining your hair.

Now, I can't afford to simply start ordering actual products to use just for testing... But I figured that if all it is comprised of is watercolor pigment and conditioner, hell I already have both of those. In this post you will get to see me experimenting with watercolors on my hair! First, I need to test out the colors on a small strip of hair that will not be too noticeable if botched. There is also a small list of things that you will need before you try this:
dirty, old shirt
moisturizing conditioner
non-toxic watercolor paints
paint brush
mixing plate/bowl
tin foil
rubber gloves

Lets begin!
It's probably best to start with hair that hasn't been washed for a few days. Here, my hair is three days dirty. I clipped back the largest portion of the top of my hair and sectioned off a small strip.
Next, using my paintbrush, conditioner and watercolor paints, I mixed the colors to my liking until they had a desirable consistency.
I decided that if I used really rich, deep colors that the pigment would stick better. I went with a deep royal purple, a teal blue and a rich, golden yellow tone.
After that I could begin painting the mixtures on my piece of hair. You will definitely want to use an old shirt for this step, you can see how I got it on my shirt and hand. I didn't have any rubber gloves but it was fine for such a small section. If I were doing a larger portion I would most certainly use gloves.
After I finished applying the colors to my test strip, I wrapped a small piece of tinfoil around the section and allowed it to sit for about 20 minutes. The tinfoil is mostly there to keep color from going everywhere.
After I had allowed the color to sit for a good bit, it was time to rinse and dry.

The test strip did not take at all. Literally, there was no color retention whatsoever.

Therefore, what makes better since than to lower the amount of conditioner and to amp up the amount of color!? Not much. Since the test strip didn't even take, I decided to take the risk and to just add a whole shitton of color to my ends. If worse comes to worse I'll just end up with temporarily purple ends anyway. After all, this experiment is for fun.
I ponytailed my hair directly on top of my head and began the application. Using my paintbrush, I gently applied the deepest, royal purple color that I could obtain to my ends. Lets hope that this works.
After I got the color all through my ends as thoroughly as I could, I added a little bit more conditioner to my ends to not only add a little more moisture, but also to help to more evenly distribute the color throughout. Once I finished applying the color, I carefully took an old, black tank top and wrapped it around the hair and then hairbanned it into place in a bun. I used a tank top rather than the tinfoil because a. that's way to much tinfoil and b. the tank top is more gentle on my hair. Now we wait.

Well that was a complete and utter waste of a blog post. I allowed the color to set for what seemed like hours and none of the color stayed during a cool rinse. I guess that I shouldn't be surprised considering that it is watercolor paint. However, if you were to try this without rinsing it would probably work. Although, the watercolors dry with just about the same consistency as hair chalk, so I will not be using my paints for an experiment like this again.

Guess I'll just stick to hair chalk for temporary coloring.

Ear Cuffs

Punk Style None Piercing Backbone Clip-On Earrings
Decidedly very cute ear cuffs are in the mail.

I am so excited with anticipation for the arrival of my new ear cuffs. Since I have my lobes stretched and I do not want any more piercings on my ears, these ear cuffs are the answer to my accessorizing funk. I ordered the backbone cuffs on gofavor for just a few dollars. The snake cuff (which I ordered in black) and the plain silver cuffs both came from etsy for under $20. I am slowly getting more into buying from etsy. There are tons of creative and talented artists on there that make some of the best (for a price) pieces that I have seen in a while. It is literally a hub for these people.

BFB

I did mention that Joshua has a band, right?

He's the drummer for the band Bachelors For Buchanan (BFB). The guys (Joey, Andrew and Joshua) have been making music all together for a long time now and they have slowly been working on getting their stuff together so that they can become a considerably popular indie rock group. So far they have already done a few shows in Jacksonvile, Fl, they have also made some demo tracks for anyone out there who is interested in listening. I am writing about the guys on my blog to get them a little more publicity from the traffic on my page. BFB rocks so listen to their stuff. Add. Subscribe. Share.
