Domo! Come into my home...
I LOVE JAPANESE HOMES. No, seriously, I find the simple yet decadent style to be completely captivating. Although from what I understand most of Japan's residents live in small apartments, they still contain that great cultural grandeur that I find so fascinating... And why am I talking about all of this on art day? Because I think that it is an art! I mean look at that tatami!
That strange table is called a Kotatsu. It has a heating device underneath the table coupled with a heavy blanket under the table top for ample cuddliness.
Okay, so this is probably a very small apartment, but like I said, seeing as there are thousands upon thousands of people living in Japan many people reside in downsized living quarters. My dream is that one day when Josh and I build our own home it will have many aspects of a traditional Japanese homestead. Including a tea house, kotatsu, and tatami separators.
(A beautiful Japanese tea house)
The warmth of the woods and the sleekness of the design is just so inviting to me. Sometimes I wish that I had been born Japanese so that Americans wouldn't think I was so strange for being borderline obsessed with the culture. Maybe one day my dream will come true and I will live in a gorgeous setting like these and will be speaking in Japanese with Joshua... Now I only have to convince him to let me give him lessons... After I learn of course. :)
